Don't mean this as bad as it sounds
But, You are complaining about having to modify your product for your clients and want them to always spend money to upgrade everything to the latest and "greatest". As vendor/supplier it is your job to build the better mousetrap - from their perspective - not yours.
Not saying it's bad to say, "this only works on iOSxxx, DOS :) or Windows xxx and above" particularly if your product is on the edge of technology, but recognize that does limit your client base. LOTS of companies successfully operate a step or two behind the latest technology - can't remain there forever, but can be successful.
Not every type of business or government entity needs to, or financially should, upgrade at every cycle.
This is also like the chicken or the egg. If your product improves your client's ability so much they have to have your product to compete - it is easy to set minimum requirements. If it's only a marginal improvement, you may have to conform to increase your customer base enough to make yourself competitive.
